Summer in London
Sights to see in London
Last year I traveled to London and spent a day exploring this lovely city. What I loved about the city in general is that all landmarks and attraction sites are within a walking distance from each other. I started the day by alighting at Westminster station, admired the River Thames and the bustling of people around while walking past Westminster Palace towards Trafalgar Square via 10 Downing Street and the changing of the Queen's Life guard at the Household Cavalry Museum. I made a quick stop at The National Gallery to cool down since the summer heat was becoming unbearable, saw a few artworks as well as paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh.
At midday, I bought a sandwich and a drink then walked towards St. James' Park and had my lunch in the shade of enormous trees. There was a little pond near the exit that led to Buckingham Palace where ducks waddled around. I strolled past the palace and walked through Green Park emerging into Piccadilly street, passed by the Royal Academy of Arts for a while then headed towards Piccadilly Circus.
I wandered on to Regent Street as I admired the countless red double-decker buses and black taxis that sped down the street. The high-end stores along the curvy street were a sight to admire as I made my way towards the underground and took the Piccadilly line towards Covent Garden and then the Central line to St. Paul's Cathedral.
My stop at the famed cathedral was short since it was late in the afternoon, I walked through the gardens whose flowers had bloomed then crossed the road towards Millennium bridge. This footbridge has always been my favorite and reminds me of Pont Solferino in Paris whose architecture is almost similar.
Although it was getting late, I made sure to go look at a few pieces of art in the Tate Modern for about an hour. Its one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the world whose collection is extensive and intriguing. When I was satisfied, I ambled along the river bank whilst admiring the sights along the way including Shakespeare's Globe then continued past Southwark bridge via Borough market towards my final destination which was The Shard at London Bridge Station.
Looking back, it had been a wonderful time graced with lovely weather and great people who seemed friendly. I would love to spend yet another day exploring the city and experiencing a new culture whilst enjoying my trip.
