Travelling to the UK

A Look Back At One Of My Journey's to England.

Travelling to Great Britain has always been something I'd wanted to do for a long time.
Luckily, I got the chance to visit last year and it was nothing short of what I'd expected it to be.
I had an amazing time and got to see most of its famed landmarks.
I actually visited England twice, the first time was in Spring and I went to Liverpool. My stay up north west of England was memorable as there's so much history in this particular place.
The second time was in Autumn and I went to London for a couple of days.

During my first trip, I was nervous and didn't know how it'd go. The best thing about it was that it was sort of a road trip; driving all the way from France, taking the ferry across the English Channel and continuing onwards to England by road. I made a short pit stop in Oxford. I loved the city itself as it had such an old vibe to it. I visited Trinity College, the Radcliffe Camera and got to see the famous Bridge of Sighs. Taking a stroll through the Covered market, I came across a lovely quaint cafe and bought a delicious ham sandwich.

Afterwards, it was time to hit the road towards Liverpool. I was staying in a town called Bebington in Wallasey. The next day I began exploring the city, first things first: The Beatles Museum - coz why not? I spent the better part of the morning inside the Cavern club which was first venue The Beatles played at before they became popular rock artists while in the afternoon I visited the museum itself in Merseyside near the Pier. I went up the Ferris wheel and boy was I glad coz I got to have the most spectacular views over the city, as well as watching the sunset over the Irish sea.

The next day I visited the International Slavery Museum  and later in the afternoon I had a tour of the Anfield Football Stadium. It was nice to visit these places that hold so much history as well as a place of leisure for football fans. Wandering around the Pier was lovely, the smell of the sea and the sound of sea gulls made it even more remarkable, besides eating fish and chips in the open-air Albert Dock. I also visited the town center and went to the malls. The Superlambananas were marvelous to come across.

The third day I went to Manchester, an hour long drive from Liverpool. Although I only had a day to explore the city, I made it count. First visit was the People's museum then sauntering around the city. I passed through Sackville gardens where there was a statue of Alan Turing, onto the City hall and went shopping in the Arndale. I loved how nearly every part of the city was red-bricked. In the evening I drove back to Bebington for my final night in Liverpool. It was a bittersweet moment nonetheless I had thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

My second trip was in London, I'd been looking forward to it for such a long time. I took the Eurostar from Paris to St. Pancras International. The first spot I visited was the London Eye, it was too crowded so I didn't get to go on it. I dawdled along the South bank towards the Palace of Westminster and onto Westminster Abbey. I loved seeing the Big Ben and the sundial on Westminster Abbey.

Walking onwards I came to Trafalgar square where the National Gallery is situated and continued through St. James park and emerged onto Buckingham palace. A walk further down whilst passing next to the Ritz on my way to Picadilly circus was picturesque. Suddenly the sky was pouring and I guess it wouldn't be London without the classic evening rain. My stroll around the city came to an end at Covent Garden market where I treated myself to local delicacies as I waited for the rain to subside. All in all, it was a splendid first day in London.

Day two started off with a cold foggy morning. I went to Canary Wharf, the city's business district and drove around. At midday I went to Borough market and bought my lunch. It was nice to munch on local dishes and listen to folks play music in an otherwise busy place. After a short while I proceeded towards The Shard and it was time to face one of my biggest fears: Acrophobia. The elevator ride was quick and before I knew it, I had the most stunning panoramic view over London. Thank the heavens the skies were clear in the afternoon and I had a superb view of the city and its surroundings.

On my last day, I decided to visit The Tate Modern. I ambled down from St Paul's Cathedral onto Albert bridge to get to the museum. It was fun getting to see Contemporary art. I didn't quite enjoy the museum probably because I didn't really understand much of it. A quick stop on Oxford street for a bit of a shopping spree was rather lovely. To conclude, I loved my stay in London and I hope I'll  get to visit it again. I greatly recommend you guys to visit at least one of these cities, you'd all love them as much as I did.
